While we don’t know too much about Dancer’s early years, we do know a few things about this wonderful girl now.  For one thing, she is a favorite of many of our volunteers.  She is a very affectionate animal who is always happy and very glad to see those people she knows.
Dancer came to us from a private rescuer who informed us that she had been living with a woman who travelled all the time.  Instead of leaving Dancer at home, or boarding her, the woman decided to take Dancer with her.  Unfortunately, because Dancer could not go on the appointments with her owner, the woman tied Dancer to the bed while she was gone on business.  Needless to say, this arrangement didn’t work out very well.  Dancer became very unhappy and as we can see now, she needed someone to spend time and pay attention to her.  The woman ended up contacting the rescuer, threatening to take Dancer to Animal Control if she didn’t take her.

This woman, with all good intentions, tried to adopt Dancer.  This situation didn’t work out either.  Because the woman didn’t have any previous experience with wolfdogs, there were several incidents where Dancer became very destructive and fearful of new people and things.  The rescuer didn’t know how to handle her shyness, nor manage her “wolfdog” behavior and ended up contacting Shy Wolf Sanctuary.  Because there was nowhere else for Dancer to go, we took her in as an emergency situation.

As we got to know Dancer, it astonished everyone that this loving, gentle animal could have such a background.  Dancer is a bit shy at first, but warms up to people very quickly.  She loves to just get as close as she can to you, rubbing her head on yours and giving great kisses.  She loves attention, and actually gets a bit jealous when you spent too much time with her “boyfriend” Cree.

Dancer lives with Cree, a very shy wolf who came from a very abusive background.  Dancer has taught Cree many things.  She has taught him that the people at the Sanctuary are great people who love and care for them.  It’s very hard not to fall in love with Dancer as soon as you meet her.
