CHOCOWA

Chocowa was one of three wolf pups that came to SWS at three weeks of age.  FWC called us to ask if we could take them in after they had been found in deplorable conditions.  Nancy, of course, never hesitated and the BOD agreed with the intention of re-homing them once they were healthy and older...something that never transpired.

Upon arrival we realized that this was going to be a much bigger job than initially thought.

It was going to take intensive time and care to get these babies past their health issues…much more than a bottle every few hours.  The pups had staph, coccidia, ringworm, and hookworms.  Fortunately, we had a volunteer at the time who had a bedroom set up in her house for fostering.

Sue had volunteered with the HSUS prior to coming to SWS and she was willing to provide the daily baths and IV treatments required to help these fragile pups survive.  Chocowa went through several names before he found one that fit.  It is supposed to mean "chalk" but he is more affectionately known by volunteers as "Pigpen" due to his affinity for rolling in the mud.

Chocowa is quite the character and loves to bob for pumpkins, veggies, and anything else that floats in his foot tub.
