BEAR

Bear is another animal that has been "rescued" twice.  He was bred at a facility in Christmas Florida and lived there until he and his brother (Moon) started fighting with their parents.  At that time he was moved to the curator's home.  Due to human error a gate was left open and her small grandchild wandered in to pet the "dogs".  When he reached his hand through the fencing, the child was bitten.  The woman felt horrible and knew it was her fault but didn't trust herself not to make the same mistake.  Her plan was to have both of the JA boys euthanized.

FWC stepped in and asked her to try and find placement for them elsewhere.  She contacted rescue and the word was put out, but few people will consider placing animals with a "bite history".  A privately licensed individual stepped up and offered to take the boys.  She had no children and seemed like the perfect home.  For awhile she was the perfect home…until she became addicted to prescription medications and started having panic attacks that prevented her leaving the house.  This meant that the animals were not being fed or watered.

Bear was part of a larger rescue in which 29 animals total have been relocated over several years.  He weighed 76lbs when he was removed from the property and was literally nothing but skin & bones.

Bear lives for attention and can't wait for visitors to dole out the scratches and belly rubs.  While we've not seen any signs of aggression towards people, no small guests can visit due to his sheer size…and if he gets a ball cap or other item, it is his for keeps unless you can trade something he values more than that item.
